Another Riddick film confirmed

Variety reports that Vin Diesel is confirmed to star in and produce a third installment in the Riddick franchise (via ComingSoon). While the first two films--Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick--have got more than their share of violence, Riddick’s story makes for good science fiction and is also often riddled with God-talk, so I’m interested to see just what the next one has in store.

For what it's worth, David Twohy, who directed the previous two films, is still slated to direct the third installment and "third film will hew closer in tone to the cult hit Pitch Black and will focus on the character of Riddick as opposed to the universe he inhabits." You can read my thoughts on the first two films here and here.

I wonder what that means for the early rumor that the third film would involve the Underverse? Not sure if that rumor ever had any merit, but it's an interesting possibility.

agreed. can't see how they can ignore it as Riddick sits on the Necromonger throne.

But does he sit on the Necromonger throne? From the synopsis, it sounds like his reign was short-lived!
