ComingSoon points to a Hollywood Reporter report that Carla Gugino (pictured left in Night at the Museum, a film this blog actually enjoyed) is joining the Disney "re-imagining" of the classic Escape to Witch Mountain, a film this blog's been following:

The Hollywood Reporter says actor/director Garry Marshall also will star. There's more hints of that aliens-destroying-the-earth stuff again. I'll have to check out and see if the timing of the release of this film and the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still (another aliens-about-to-destroy-the-earth film this blog is following) are close or coinciding, which tends to be a trend in Hollywood planning. As noted before, the 1951 The Day the Earth Stood Still carries a lot of biblical allusions (though it appears they may have been somewhat unintentional). The plotline itself (someone stepping in and willing to sacrifice themselves in order to save the human race from sure destruction) has the potential for plenty of God-talk. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.
In Andy Fickman's feature, Gugino will play a discredited astrophysicist and UFO expert who meets up with a Las Vegas cab driver (Johnson). He asks for
her extraterrestrial expertise to help a pair of psychic siblings escape the clutches of evil men and save the human race from impending doom.
Marshall plays a government and UFO conspiracy theorist/fringe scientist who helps them in their quest. Alexander Ludwig and AnnaSophia Robb play the siblings.
