Hat tip to AICN for the heads up on this trailer for Forbidden Kingdom (starring legends Jet Li and Jackie Chan in their first onscreen collaboration). This blog tends to like epic martial arts films, but I wasn't as sure about this one. However, the trailer hints there may be a depth to this film that hasn't been foreshadowed that much in what I've been reading.
Why follow a film like this on a God-talk blog? As I’ve written before, when epic martial arts films are at their best they resonate on many levels: good versus evil, sacrifice versus fulfillment, forgiveness versus revenge, love versus fear—all themes that relate to faith and God-talk. A film that explores themes like that is worth considering. At the very least, it gives us a chance to bring God-talk into open spaces.
