New glimpses into some upcoming films

There are two new posters out there for upcoming films which promise to border (if not be) blockbusters—and coincidently both are projects of J.J. Abrams (who is only a year and a half younger than me, ack). The first is Star Trek, the latest film in the Star Trek franchise which will focus on the younger years of the original crew—and we also have other news on this film: Heroes’ Zachary Quinto (Sylar) has signed to portray the younger Spock and Leonard Nimoy will be back in his original role as well. God-talk connection? I could go into all the themes and issues the series and films raise, but, heck, truth is I’m a fan of the franchise who’s hoping this film breathes some life back into the Trek universe.

The second poster is from Abrams' cryptic project currently known as 1-18-08 (after its release date), Cloverfield and Monstrous (a title Abrams debunked recently). The God-talk connection on this one? There’s a rumor on the 'net that the monster(s) of the film are none other than three great monsters of Jewish myth: Behemoth, Leviathan and Ziz. The first two have biblical reference while the third is apparently part of Jewish legend. Update: Opps, looks like FilmChat scooped this one back on Tuesday, heh. Where have I been?
