This afternoon, my kids and I drove in to D.C. and visited the
Lincoln Memorial, a monument to
one of this country's greatest presidents. You walk up a long series of rows of wide steps, enter through giant columns and stand at the feet of this impressive statue. On the walls to your left and right,
Lincoln's second inaugural address and
Gettysburg Address are respectively engraved underneath two murals. Of all the sites in the D.C. area, this one was near the top of my list--and I wasn't disappointed. The picture above and to the left features my daughter in the foreground, so you get an idea of the size of the columns and statues. Quite extraordinary.
