For your TiVo

Well, it’s been awhile since I’ve offered a TiVo alert (summer is a bit slow for the small screen) but I thought I’d let y'all know (if you don't already) about History Channel’s The Exodus Decoded. Heh, original title. Anyway, it’s on this Sunday (Aug. 20) at 8:00 pm (EST) and, according to TV Guide, the James Cameron produced documentary will be “an eye-popping account of filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici’s work to scientifically prove the tale of Moses and the flight of the Israelites from Egypt.” So, what’s the scoop? Read a review at Catholic Online or the Jerusalem Post for some thoughts and critiques.

In other TV news (which turns out to be all fantasy and sci-fi, go figure) Doctor Who (a fav of this blog) is back for Season 2 in the States, returning to Sci-Fi on September 29. (As a trivia tidbit, this season’s regenerated Doc is played by David Tennant who played Barty Crouch Junior in Harry Potter.) For you fantasy fans out there, Sam Rami has optioned Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth novels for a “groundbreaking miniseries.” The first miniseries will focus on the first novel in the series, Wizard’s First Rule. (Why is a fantasy movie on a God-talk blog? See here.) ABC is producing Masters of Science Fiction, an hour-long anthology series which includes in its first episode "A Clean Escape," based on Nebula Award-winning author John Kessel's short story. For a list of the first several episodes, see here. (Why is science-fiction on a God-talk blog? See here.) And, if you missed out on the first two seasons of Battlestar Galactica (another show this blog TiVos), you can catch up during the 44-minute special “Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far” on Monday, August 28 (but it looks like it may be available only through video-on-demand systems).

And that's all for now, folks.
