Behold, His Majesty: A Guided Meditation*

God, brilliant Lord,
yours is a household name.

Nursing infants gurgle choruses
about you;
toddlers shout the songs
That drown out enemy talk,
and silence atheist babble.

I look up at your macro-skies,
dark and enormous,
your handmade sky-jewelry,
Moon and stars mounted in
their settings.
Then I look at my micro-self
and wonder,
Why do you bother with us?
Why take a second look our way?

Yet we’ve so narrowly missed
being gods,
bright with Eden’s dawn light.
You put us in charge of your handcrafted world,
repeated to us your Genesis-charge,
Made us lords of sheep and cattle,

even animals out in the wild,
Birds flying and fish swimming,

whales singing in the ocean deeps.

God, brilliant Lord,

your name echoes around the world.
—Psalm 8 (Eugene Peterson’s The Message)

Can you imagine the vastness of God’s Dominion?

Only a short while ago, Voyager 1 left our solar system, and has traveled better than eight to nine billion miles in almost 26 years—yet it will take that spacecraft 42,000 years to reach the next star. How awesome, how great and how encompassing is our Maker.

Take a moment and let’s travel His Dominion. As dusk draws near, imagine yourself settling into an ultra-modern space-like capsule. The environment of your capsule is very spacious, but only has room enough for one person. You are sitting in an overstuffed, fully adjustable chair with a complete control panel in the chair’s right arm. You can control the air temperature, light and tint of the capsule’s wrap around windows. Your travel will be unconventional. You will have some control to which celestial body you point your capsule, and your capsule is not limited by gravitational energy but powered by energy already present in the most spatial environments.

After the sun sets, you are silently and effortlessly drawn into space. The magnificent universe is in front of you for your recognition—and your eyes will see as they never have before after leaving Earth’s atmosphere.

This is God’s Domain. God gave us the Earth, but the Heavens are the Lord's. As you gaze at this awesome creation—the wonders of the countless stars, moons and innumerable other celestial bodies—are you aware of His presence? Do you realize that as God created, sustains and maintains His full creation He also created and continues to sustain and maintain you?

God is very present.

As you travel, you see many creations all around you which have not been witnessed by known mortals. See how God has sustained and maintained these space systems for eons of ages. You are not limited to speed, distance and time. You are inter-connected with the Presence which is everywhere omnipresent. What are you seeing and feeling by now, immersed in God’s almighty power of creation?

You enter now deep into space and the wonders begin to be realized within your soul. On Earth, you may have seen the Milky Way at night with very little light interference, but what you are seeing now is magnified a million times—and even that does not give justice to what you witness. No wonder your God is called omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscience.

Again, do you feel His Presence? Are you experiencing His Presence? Linger and ponder on you thoughts as your awareness of the Presence travels with reality to you heart.

Behold His Majesty!
