Friday Five: Dream a little dream

Courtesy of Songbird on RevGalBlog: "In the Last Days," God says, "I will pour out my Spirit on every kind of people: Your sons will prophesy, also your daughters; Your young men will see visions, your old men dream dreams. When the time comes, I'll pour out my Spirit On those who serve me, men and women both, and they'll prophesy." (Acts 2:17-18, The Message) On this final Friday of 2006, it seems appropriate to speak of dreams. A very important dream about a lighthouse played a role in my journey towards ordained ministry, and mine last night were vivid and included a flying church. Please feel as untethered yourself in responding to this Friday Five. Tell us all about":
1. A dream you remember from childhood. My most vivid dream was actually a nightmare during one night when I had a fever. It involved untying a very tangled string. It seems quite benign, but it was dreadful to me, heh.

2. A recurring or significant dream. I live for my tornado dreams. I love storms, and tornadoes fill me with a sense of awe at their power. In these twisters, I get an inkling of God’s power and that’s enough to leave me wide-eyed and speechless. In my dreams, I’m always safe, even if the tornadoes are very near. My favorite tornado dream had me standing on a hill watching a herd of whisping, whirling white-and-sky-blue tornadoes pass through a green, rich valley. It was like watching angels pass by. For me, these dreams always feel like enounters with God, full of shivers of awe yet permeated with feelings of being safe and sound. Kinda like Peter, Susan and Lucy felt upon hearing the name of the not-safe but good Lion of Narnia.

3. A nightmare. Spiders. And bugs. And snakes. Shiver.

4. A favorite daydream. Heh, the one where I’m riding, living and working out on the range (like the ones in Legends of the Fall) doing the likes of repairing fences and digging post holes (which I’ve never done in my entire life, my husband keeps reminding me). All by myself. Just me and a horse and the sun, moon and stars. And silence. The golden, nature kind of silence. Pure bliss. In my daydream, anyway.

5. A dream for the New Year. Rest.
