Some more film tidbits

There are a few new films in the chute that have some, um, rather loosely tethered (some of it stretching it even for this blog) God-talk attached (hat tip to Christianity Today’s movie blog):

Production Weekly reports that Rambo IV: In The Serpent’s Eye (yes, you read that right) will have a religious twist:
The next chapter finds Rambo recruited by a group of Christian human rights missionaries to protect them against pirates, during a humanitarian aid deliver to the persecuted Karen people of Burma. After some of the missionaries are taken prisoner by sadistic Burmese soldiers, Rambo gets a second impossible job: to assemble a team of mercenaries to rescue the surviving relief workers.
Okey dokey, then. Production Weekly also reveals that a film called The Ministers will focus on a religious group that goes on a murderous rampage. The story focuses on an NYPD detective whose father was murdered 13 years before with the only evidence left behind a pamphlet from a "mysterious religious group known only as 'The Ministers.'" When the group resurfaces, she finds herself embroiled both personally and professionally. Sigh.

Then there’s the news (from ComingSoon) that The Gospel According to Jimmy—a near-future story that focuses on “a pool cleaner in L.A. who finds out that he's a clone of Jesus, made from DNA taken from the Turin shroud”—is headed for the big screen. FilmChatBlog’s Peter Chattaway says the whole clone-Jesus thing has been done before (albeit mostly in books) and adds that the film, according to Variety, is being pitched as a "satirical comedy about America today and the rise of Christian fundamentalism" and as a "cross between Dr Strangelove, Walk the Dog and The Truman Show." Um. Ack. Chattaway also points to an interesting Get Religion post by Terry Mattingly, who weighs in on the whole Christian movie industry thing (which I’ve also ruminated on).

Also, heads up: new trailers for Spartan war epic 300 (hat tip to Mirtika) and comic-book film Ghost Rider (that this blog’s been following) are up and running. And, speaking of comic book films (which definitely pique this blog’s interest), the Ironman cast is growing.

And that would be it for now.
